The Pella City Council will begin discussing proposed ordinances related to the use and sale of fireworks at policy and planning following regular business Tuesday.

The city looks to update the definition of consumer fireworks in city code, establish a $250 fine for anyone violating the city’s ban, and limit the sales of fireworks to industrial zones and only allow them to be sold as primary use, thus eliminating roadside tents and sales in other stores. Both ordinances would also apply to certain areas within the city’s two-mile jurisdiction outside the corporate limits.

No formal action will be taken, but the council will officially consider the changes later this spring. Policy and planning will follow regular business at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Public Safety Complex on Liberty Street.
