Numerous law enforcement agencies responded to an apartment complex on West 16th Street in Pella for a nearly 24-hour standoff with a wanted man.

Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells KNIA/KRLS News an individual barricaded himself inside a unit in the The Reserves at Mill Farm since late Tuesday evening and was armed. Police confirm the man inside — a 62 year old wanted felon from Illinois, has died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A SWAT team from the Iowa State Patrol and negotiator tried to get the man to leave the apartment. The standoff ended during the 5:00 hour.

A woman inside during the standoff was released late this morning. Police have been on scene since approximately 6:30 Tuesday, and communication with the man was established early today.

The Pella Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire, and Marion County Emergency Management have responded. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Pella Police Department are evaluating the scene.
