After a state qualifying year for the PCM girls cross country team, the Mustangs will look to see that long distance success transfer to the circle for track this spring.
Head Coach Bridget Martin tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that she expects the long distance events to be a staple for the Mustangs this season. Alot of familiar faces from the cross-country team make up the track squad including at the coaching level. Martin brought in cross-country coach Eric Karr to help out this season. She describes the opportunity as the best of both worlds where “I can provide expertise in the sprints and middle distance and he can in the long distance.”
Payton Schut will look to anchor the 800 meter run finishing just shy of a school record with a personal best time of 2:21.89 a year ago. Kirsten Ives returns as the top runner in the 3000-meter with a best time of 11:59 in 2017. Other runners that Martin anticipates in the distance events include Sierra Foster, Baylee Smith, Kate McCarthy,
and Hannah McCarthy.
