Marion County Republicans adopted several new policies decided at the county convention on March 10th.
Republicans decided to support funding and awareness for K-12 students getting involved in STEM classes and careers, awareness for human trafficking crimes and harsher penalties for offenders, and support for medical marijuana. Marion County Republican Chair T. Waldmann-Williams tells KNIA/KRLS News the platform on medical marijuana changed from opposition in 2016 to supporting it now because of the medicinal reasons coming out for treatment of epilepsy and pain management, as well as the industrial hemp potential for local farmers. Waldmann-Williams went on to say that recreational marijuana use is still opposed. The issues on the platform decided at the county level will now move on to the district convention, which will be held on April 28th.
