The outdoor season kicked off for the Pella Christian, PCM, and Twin Cedars girls’ track teams on Tuesday night when they traveled to Albia.

It was a big start to the 2018 campaign for PCM, as they ran away with the title finishing with 106 team points on the strength of seven first place finishes. On a cold evening, the Mustang relay events were in midseason form taking the crown in the 4x200m, 4x400m, 4x800m, and shuttle hurdle relays. Ashley Miller helped in a few of those relays and also captured a first place finish in the 100m (13.21) and 200m (27.20) dash. Payton Schut claimed the top spot in the 400m (1:05) dash. Head Coach Bridget Martin tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the team was mentally tough to perform at such a high level with weather conditions not being ideal.

Pella Christian took home second out of the seven team meet with 67 points. The Eagles had four events finish with the top spot including the sprint medley and distance medley relay team. Allison Van Gorp claimed the top spot in the shot put with a heave of 35’7”. Emma Kolb finished first in the 1500m with a time of 5:19.

A limited Twin Cedars squad produced six points at the meet. Pella Christian’s distance medley relay team finished one-hundredth of a second ahead of Twin Cedars, who finished second in the event. Top individual performer for the Sabers was Alexis Crozier placing sixth in the shot put.
