This is Iowa Severe Weather Awareness Week, a time to prepare for the thunderstorms and tornadoes possible during the spring and summer months.

Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson tells KNIA/KRLS News the first steps an individual or family should take once severe weather hits is to get more information from a local news source like KNIA/KRLS. Anderson went on to say that a plan of action, hopefully discussed beforehand, should always be present in case severe weather occurs.

KNIA/KRLS aired a special program yesterday during the statewide tornado drill about how we cover severe weather, which includes interviews with local and state officials about the different aspects of severe weather and how to keep you and your families safe. If you missed the special program, it is available for streaming online via the Radio Audio Media Player on KNIAKRLS.com
