The Simpson Storm Softball Team swept their Iowa Conference opening doubleheader over the Beavers of Buena Vista University 6-2 and 3-1.

The wind was howling all day long and blowing straight out to center, which led to game one starting with fireworks in the bottom of the first. After Annie Stolte doubled in a run and Ashley Allen reached on an error, Taylor Davis hit a three-run bomb to give the Storm a four run lead they would not relinquish. The Beavers hit a two run home run in the second, but another Davis two run blast gave the Storm all the runs they would need. Emily Bell pitched a complete game victory, giving up only the two runs and spread out eight hits.

In game two the Storm only picked up three hits, but took advantage of a pair of Beaver errors to push across a run early in the third off a sacrifice bunt attempt by Kasiah Ehresman. In the fourth, Allen once again reached on an error and Davis hit her third home run of the day to make it 3-0. The Beavers picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth, and had the bases loaded in the sixth but could not score. Mary Leopold went 5 ⅔ innings for the win, with Kelli Hansen picking up the four out save. The Storm improve to 16-6 on the season, and will play Wartburg on Tuesday to continue Iowa Conference play.
