More discussion by the Pella City Council regarding a proposed microbrewery will continue at Tuesday’s Policy and Planning meeting following regular business.

Initially, the council sent a proposed zoning ordinance on to the Planning and Zoning Commission to make a recommendation regarding the allowable uses of microbreweries and where they are located in the community.

Mayor Jim Mueller and the rest of council present at the March 20th meeting took a hard stance against allowing such establishments in the Central Business District, which is a roughly a four block radius covering downtown and surrounding areas. However, following that policy and planning session, council wanted to see if they could instead be more specific in the language, only restricting their use in high retail areas.

Following that conversation, they will begin the process of implementing a new sidewalk inspection program and repair policy. No formal action will be taken on either of the subjects until future meetings. The Pella City Council will further discuss the zoning ordinance following regular business Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Public Safety Complex.
