While farmers anxiously wait to see if President Donald Trump’s and China’s proposed tariffs impact agriculture exports, many of Iowa’s state and federal leaders are concerned with the economic fallout if they are implemented.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig was in Leighton Thursday and told KNIA/KRLS News the impact potential tariffs from China may have on numerous Iowa exports, including soybeans and pork, could be trouble for producers in the state.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says he and other midwestern federal representatives and senators warned President Trump about the negative impacts a tariff war could have with China.

President Trump has argued the tariffs on China are necessary because China’s trade practices have led to the loss of many American jobs and to combat intellectual property theft.
