Several bills written by local officials have been passed by the Iowa legislature and signed by Governor Kim Reynolds.

A Fence Viewers Bill written by representative Greg Heartsill, which provides a process for a fair hearing for landowners with disputes and conflict of interest issues with arbitration. The other bill, authored by Marion County Attorney Ed Bull and Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky, has to do with mechanical eavesdropping.

Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS News, this bill allows home security cameras to capture audio as well as video, and it was a necessary step to bring Iowa laws into the 21st century, and makes sure that those home security devices don’t violate any privacy laws. The Iowa state legislative session will end on April 17th.
