In 2017, the Pella Christian girls soccer team set a number of school records, both team and individually. In 2018, they’re hoping to cross another milestone off the list – the program’s first ever trip to the state tournament.

The Eagles showed they have the ability to play with the best teams in class 1A Thursday night when they beat #4 North Polk 1-0 on the road.

Coach Mike Buchheit knows that it’s only one game, and that there’s a long road ahead, but that victory is an indication of his team’s potential.

“In class 1A, there are some really good soccer teams. There are about 10 teams across the state in class 1A where you have to play your best game on that day to get to state. If we play well enough during the regular season, and we can stay ranked high enough, those ten teams maybe go someplace else and we don’t have to play them in substate. I’m not going to put a cap on this team.”

After avenging last year’s loss to North Polk, the Eagles will try to do the same in their next match on Tuesday night when they host Norwalk.
