A hydraulics system failure on a construction truck at the Knoxville Library Expansion and Renovation Project site led to a hazardous chemical spill yesterday.

The Knoxville Fire Department estimates 30 gallons of hydraulic fluid spilled onto Montgomery Street, but was contained on the street before the corrosive liquid made it into the sewer system. The street was temporarily closed for cleaning, but is now reopened with no danger to the public or to city streets. The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Police Department, and Marion County Emergency Management all responded to the scene.
