Bow-Z of Pella, the Most Beautiful Bulldog of the Drake Relays, meets with the Pella Shuttle Hurdlers

Area track and field athletes wrapped up another busy weekend at the 109th edition of the Drake Relays Saturday.

The Pella boys’ shuttle hurdle relay team of Gabe Thomas, Curtis Ware, Jordan Buma, and Avery Van Zee was a highlight over the weekend, narrowly qualifying for the finals in their preliminary run and finishing 4th among the best hurdlers in the state with a 59.37 in the finals. Van Zee also placed 9th in his signature 400 meter hurdles race at 54.66. Emily Holterhaus continues her incredible strides in a race she started just before districts in 2017 — placing 8th in the 400 hurdles at 1:05.76.

Knoxville’s Katie Keitges was 16th in the 1500 meter run, with her race at 4:54.89.

Both Pella and Pella Christian travel to Indianola for the Little Hawkeye Conference Track and Field meet in Indianola Tuesday, while the Panthers boys and girls head to Albia Thursday.
