High winds and low humidity has led to a higher risk of fires in Marion County.

Knoxville Township Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA/KRLS News the steps you need to take if you are having controlled burn include calling the Marion County Sheriff’s Department to let them know, as well as having a water source or alternate way to put out the fire quickly so it doesn’t spread. Chief Thompson also wants Marion County Residents to know what his reaction will be if he gets called out to a controlled burn that was not called in:

“I will not be very happy with them.”

KNIA/KRLS will relay information from the National Weather Service if the county is at a higher fire risk.
