West Elementary students were treated to Principal Linda Abbott kissing a pig Friday, to celebrate the students reaching their goal of raising their reading scores.
The day coincided with Ag day, which was dubbed “Reading is Farmtastic” day. Abbott tells KNIA/KRLS News after the winter assessment, she promised the students that if they could all raise their score for the spring assessment, that she would kiss a pig. Abbott also said there has been a buzz around the school for the last several months since the announcement, where excited kids would run up and ask her “are you really going to kiss a pig?” to which the response would always be “are you really going to raise your reading score?” The Knoxville High School FFA students designed classes for students for Reading is Farmtastic day, which saw all West Elementary students participate in activities ranging from riding toy tractors to planting sunflower seeds.
