The 2018 baseball and softball season is underway and two area schools met for the 2018 opener.
On the baseball diamond, as heard on the KNIA2 stream online at kniakrls.com it was a back and forth affair that saw plenty of offense. The Eagles got the party started early with a pair of runs in the first thanks to a pair of walks and RBI groundout by Devin Havemen. The Trojans answered right back in the bottom half with three runs of their own in part by a RBI double by Caleb Adreon. Both teams would trade punches for much of the game with five lead changes in the contest. Trailing 11-8 heading into the final frame, the Eagles went to work plating 14 batters and scoring eight runs to flip the script. Six walks and a big RBI knock by Luke Mulder led to the breakout inning and Pella Christian winning the wild one 16-12. Will Dembski going 3-for-4 with two RBI including a home run led the Eagles. The Trojans’ Cael Lester had a big day going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Both teams get back on the diamond tonight with Pleasantville traveling to Bondurant-Farrar and the Eagles to West Marshall.
Across the way on the softball diamond the Trojans got the best of the Eagles in a 10-6 win. The Eagles jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead until the Trojan offense came to life in the middle innings including busted out for five in the fourth. Andie Sowers had a big game for the Trojans going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Sophie Howerzyl had a solid day at the plate for Pella Christian going 3-for-4 with RBI. Abbie DeJoode got the win in the circle for Pleasantville. The Trojans get back at it tonight against Chariton and Pella Christian is off until next Tuesday against Albia.
