Throwing a complete game shutout is impressive. Giving up only three hits in said shutout is even more impressive. Then there is what Quintin Berglund did last night. The Pleasantville junior hurler had an eye-popping 19 strikeouts to lead his Trojans past Mount Ayr 4-0.

To no surprise the 19 punchouts is the most recorded in the state in the opening week of the season and is tied for 4th all time by an Iowa high school pitcher. Head Coach Sheldon Card tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he got ahead all night, hit his spots, and never gave in. While Berglund was dealing on the bump, Caleb Adreon gave him some run support going 1-for-2 with one RBI. Grant Fouch chipped in going 2-for-5.

Pleasantville closes the opening week strong improving to 2-2 and will get back on the diamond Tuesday hosting Martensdale-St. Mary’s.
