It was a historic season for the PCM boys’ golf team, as they finished the 2018 campaign with a runner-up finish at the class 2A state golf meet in Marshalltown yesterday.

The Mustangs were third coming into the final day when all counting scores were below 80 in the final 18 holes to seal the runner-up finish. PCM shot a 306 yesterday to finish the two-day event with a total of 619 strokes edging out third place Des Moines Christian with 623. Kuemper Catholic captured the class 2A crown with 604. Reed Worth led the Mustangs in the second day with a career best score of 74. Dayton Boell and Andrew Van Ryswyk cashed in on scores of 77 and Jackson Thomas rounded out the scoring with 78. Noah Lanphier and Elijah Sperfslage posted non-counting scores of 79 and 82, respectively. For the state meet totals Lanphier led the Mustangs with a 36-hole tally of 152 (+12) to tie for 12th. Boell also cracked the top 20 in 16th with 154 (+14). Other totals included Thomas with 157 (+17), Worth with 159 (+19), Van Ryswyk with 165 (+25), and Sperfslage with 166 (+26). Head Coach Matt Rider tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the team has done great things and a runner-up finish adds to an already amazing year.

The senior led group finished their careers strong, as the Mustangs lose Boell, Lanphier, Sperflsage, and Thomas to graduation.
