While many softball teams rely on one ace to handle the bulk of the work in the pitching circle, first year Pella High coach Teresa Thompson is blessed to have three hurlers that she can count on.

She says that she’s talked to the trio about embracing the idea of a true pitching staff, which is fairly rare in softball.

“We have two seniors, Sabrina Tallman and Kinzi Van Wyk, and what they give us is different. And that’s huge, because if one of them starts, we know that we can bring in the other with a different look for the opponent. And then we also have junior Madi Parks, and she just brings it, she’s a competitor. Those three are going to be our pitching staff, and we’re going to do whatever we can to make it work on a given night. If one of them is struggling, we know that we have the others there to support.”

The Lady Dutch are off to a 2-2 start to this season and will host Colfax-Mingo tonight.
