The home opener for a young Pella Christian softball team did not go to plan for the squad, falling to No. 2 in 3A Albia 12-2 in five innings, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Eagles inexperience was sharply contrasted with the 2017 3A State 2nd place Blue Demons, who jumped to a 4-0 lead behind six straight hits out the gates.

However, Pella Christian struck back for two runs in the bottom of the first, a moment Head Coach Karen Harrill points to the young team’s desire to grow and fight back.

Albia busted the game open in the 3rd inning with a two-out, two-strike Grand Slam, and found more runs with two Eagles errors in the top of the 5th.

The Pella Christian baseball team fought back from a late Albia lead to win a 7-6 game on the diamond next door at Eagle Lane.

It was yet another seesaw affair for the boys on the young season, as the Blue Demons and Eagles traded the lead or tied eight different times. Pella Christian took advantage of two costly Albia errors in the Bottom of the 6th before Will Dempski slammed the door shut with three strikeouts to end the game.

The 0-2 Eagles softball team and 3-1 baseball squad both open the conference season this evening against crosstown rival Pella.

Little Dutch vs. Eagles baseball action can be heard with pregame starting at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30 on 92.1 KRLS, while the softball teams will begin their game at 7:15, with pregame beginning at 7 p.m. on the KNIA2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
