The ball was flying around at the baseball diamond sitting at Eagle Lane, with Pella’s boys of summer claiming their first win of the season against rival Pella Christian 14-5, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Pella’s bats punished the Eagles’ five defensive errors in the contest, opening up a four run inning in the top of the second and putting crooked numbers in the scoresheet for the 3rd, 5th, and 7th.

Senior Landon Vander Leest tossed a four-hit gem, striking out 10 Eagles in six innings. Head Coach Jesse Jablonski says the right-hander will play a pivotal role in the team’s success this summer, and nights like this are a huge boost.

“He did a fantastic job of hitting spots tonight, and he worked really well with Jaden [Rolffs] behind the plate,” he says.

Pella Christian’s errors compounded the power shown by the Dutch bats. Eagles Skipper Jeff Bruxvoort says it was an uncharacteristic night after a string of success to start the year.

Avery Van Zee and Aaron Downs each went deep with home runs for Pella, with Kade Vander Molen and Will Dembski also knocking shots out of the yard.

Pella improves to 1-3 and returns to action tonight at Chariton, while the 3-2 Eagles take a day off and defend their home field against Norwalk Friday.
