The Monroe Police Department is spreading the word about kids safety this summer.
The department says sometimes parents take for granted the possible dangers kids put themselves in by walking across streets and not looking for traffic or not wearing proper protective gear when riding their bikes. For the months of June and July, officers will be handing out coupons to kids for $1 towards ice cream anytime they see a kid doing something safe.
The Monroe and Prairie City Police Departments are also hosting a Youth Police Academy for PCM students that will be in 6th-8th grade this fall. The academy teaches leadership, teamwork, citizenship, and ethical behavior to participants. Registration is due to the Prairie City or Monroe City Hall by June 22nd.
