Run for the Fallen, a national event recognizing fallen service members, passed through Marion County yesterday.

Runners began the day in Winterset before reaching Pleasantville, and being transported over to a banquet at the Knoxville VFW. During the banquet, fallen service members names were read by the runners, and local residents were given the chance to honor their fallen friends and family. Founder of Run for the Fallen George Lutz tells KNIA/KRLS News it means so much to be able to travel the country and cross paths with local communities all who have their own stories and own names to honor, and that is what makes the run so important. Running began this year in San Diego and participants will run all the way to Arlington Cemetery, stopping once every mile to honor a different service member who has fallen since the USS Cole incident in the year 2000.
