Fifth inning rallies, including an inning with a pair of grand slams, gave Pella a pair of run rule victories over their crosstown rival Pella Christian in the Tulip City rivalry Friday night, as heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

Game one saw Pella leading 8-2 heading into the fifth inning where the Eagles capitalized on some Little Dutch mistakes to put across three runs to make the game close, before the Pella offense exploded in the bottom of the inning to end the game. Aaron Downs and Gabe Thomas each hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth as they put up eight runs to win 16-5. Tanner Dunsbergen picked up the win on the mound, while Blake Veenstra took the loss.

Game two saw Pella get out to an early lead and never look back, with Aaron Downs hitting a leadoff home run in the first, with Pella putting up five overall in the frame. The Eagles answered back with a pair of runs of their own with a pair of doubles from Matthew Bokhoven and Blake Veenstra, but the Little Dutch offense was just too powerful. Pella put up runs in each half inning, including three in the bottom of the fifth with a walk off single by Jaden Rolffs. Ryan Mace pitched the complete game for the Little Dutch to claim victory, while the Eagles Kade Vander Molen took the loss.

Pella moves to 9-6 on the season, with a pivotal conference matchup against Indianola on Monday, while Pella Christian falls to 5-11 and matches up with Norwalk on Monday.
