Many area communities will be celebrating Independence Day.

Leighton will hold their annual community celebration on Friday from 5 to 10 p.m. throughout the community. A wide range of activities, food, and educational displays will be held, as well as their parade at 7:30 p.m., followed by fireworks at dusk.

THRIVE Knoxville is hosting a day full of events on Wednesday, July 4th, including a flag raising ceremony at 7:45am in the city parking lot, with the Knoxville Police Department Freedom 5K to follow at 8, a pancake breakfast, the parade beginning at noon, a best burger contest beginning at 1pm, and a dodgeball tournament for teams of eight, with live music and games throughout the day. A fireworks show will take place at the Knoxville Municipal Airport beginning at dusk.

Activities in the city of Pella begin on July 4th with kids games and food stands downtown and fishing at Caldwell Park, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the parade down Franklin Street at 1:30 p.m., special Outdoor Aquatic Center hours in the late afternoon, the City Band performance at 7, and fireworks at dusk.

Bussey is hosting a two-day celebration for Independence Day July 3rd and 4th, which includes a BBQ Cook Off, Car Show, Bussey Fire Department Dinner, BINGO in the Park, Carnival Games, music by Joey Dursky, Luke Farland, Ted Stockon and Cody Hicks, and more activities over the two days. They are hosting their annual parade on July 4th at 10 a.m., followed by a flag raising in memory of Bob Ford at 11 a.m., with fireworks late that evening. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio is participating in the Bussey 4th of July Parade.

Independence Day celebrations begin in Pleasantville on the evening of Tuesday, July 3rd and continue through the 4th. Recognition of heroes and volunteers begins at 6 p.m. on the 3rd, followed by a patriotic costume contest at 6:30 p.m. and music by Luke Fox Band at 7 p.m. On the 4th of July, a Flag Raising ceremony will be held from 8:15 to 9 a.m. at the Pleasantville Memorial Hall, followed by a pet show at 9 a.m. The annual Pleasantville 4th of July parade begins at 11 a.m., with fun and games in the evening at Cora Shadle Memorial Park from 5 to 9 p.m., and fireworks following.

The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will be at the Pella, Bussey, and Pleasantville celebrations during the day, and the Big Red Radio will be celebrating in Knoxville. The Lil’ Big Red Radio will also be in Leighton for their parade and fireworks display.
