Central College is hosting three sustainability day camps this summer.

The Wild Iowa Camp will be held July 9th through the 13th, and has kids spend a week venturing outdoors to explore prairies, forests, streams, and marshes.

The Positive Energy camp July 16th through the 20th focuses on energy conservation and renewable energy through field trips and hands-on projects involving solar, wind, and hydroelectric power facilities.

Central will once again host its “Fun with Food” day camp July 23rd through 27th, which delves into food awareness with trips to area farms, gardening lessons, and a cooking competition.

All three programs are for children 8-12 years old, and run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily during each event. Cost is $180 per camp, with a discount applied for families who sign up for all three.

Sustainability Day Camp: Wild Iowa Camp
The Wild Iowa Camp is a chance for 8 – 12 year olds to spend a week venturing outdoors to look for and learn about the amazing critters that call Iowa home.

Campers will explore prairies and forests, wade in streams and marshes, and spend an evening trying to catch endangered bats. Get to know Iowa’s rare and endangered species and the wild places all around us.

The camp will run daily from 9a – 3p July 9 – 13. There will be an optional family outing Friday evening July 13 to experience bat netting.

Cost: $180.00 per person


July 16 – 20, 2018 – Sustainability Day Camp: Positive Energy Camp

Central will host the Positive Energy day camp focused on energy conservation and renewable energy.

Learn about energy conservation and renewable energy through field trips and hands-on projects. Campers will visit solar, wind, and hydroelectric power facilities, plus make their own small-scale versions of each.

Teams will compete to construct their own energy-efficient model homes.

The camp is for children ages 8-12 and will run from 9am-3pm in the Roe Center on Central College campus, Pella, Iowa.

Cost: $180.00 per person


July 23 – 27, 2018 – Sustainability Day Camp: Fun with Food
Central will once again host its “Fun with Food” day camp

The Fun with Food Camp is a chance for 8 – 12 year olds to delve into food awareness with field trips to area farms and hands-on activities including lessons on gardening, cooking, and healthy eating. .

Attendees will get to grow food in Central College’s campus garden, take field trips to meet local farmers and food producers, try new foods from around the world, and cook healthy, delicious meals each day. This week long day camp will be a fun filled chance to make friends, learn about food and nutrition and make meaningful connections.

The week will culminate with a team cooking competition pairing campers with professional staff from Central College Dining.

Cost: $180.00 per person
