The first annual 4th of July on the Square celebration hosted by THRIVE Knoxville is Wednesday.
The day includes a flag raising ceremony beginning at 7:45 am in the city parking lot, with the Knoxville Police Department Freedom 5K to follow at 8, a pancake breakfast, kids are encouraged to decorate their bikes for a parade beginning at noon, a best burger contest beginning at 1pm, and a dodgeball tournament at the school administration building. Pastor Brent Hanna with THRIVE tells KNIA/KRLS News that one of the biggest draws for people will be live music throughout the day on the courthouse bandstand beginning at noon with the singing of our national anthem to coincide with the parade, and a wide variety of music throughout the rest of the day with all local talent performing. A fireworks show will take place at the Knoxville Municipal Airport beginning at dusk.
