Central College football coach Jeff McMartin is a member of the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees, and he says that player safety to continues to be one of the groups’ primary focuses.
Rule changes and tweaks over the last several years have been aimed at making the game safer, and that is still very much the mindset.
While McMartin agrees that any reduction of injuries is a good thing, he says that the game is by and large very safe for players, with a relatively small number of injuries that get magnified by high profile media attention.
“The AFCA is really committed to trying to help eliminate some of those bad situations, reduce those things, and also highlight what is going great about our game, and there are a lot of things to feel good about our game.  We want to make it a great experience for the players, the fans and everyone involved, and that’s what we’re focused on with the AFCA right now.”
McMartin is gearing up for his 15th season with the Dutch, with the season opener less than two months away.
