Going out with a bang. That has been the mantra for the Pleasantville summer teams this year in their final season in the Pride of Iowa Conference. After the softball squad clinched the conference crown last week, the baseball team made it a clean sweep on Thursday when they won 2-1 over Interstate-35 to close out league play.
In true Trojan fashion it took a stellar performance on the bump to come out with a victory, as Colton Major threw six innings of five hit ball while striking out nine. Devon Dursky broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a double that plated Owen Worthington. I-35 found the equalizer in the sixth but Dursky came up big again in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot that proved to be the game winner. Dursky finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
After the emotional conference clinching victory in the afternoon, Ankeny Christian Academy came to town for a non-conference bout and the Trojans fell 3-2. Caleb Adreon went 6 2/3 innings on the mound giving up five hits and three runs. Adreon also went 2-for-4 to lead the offense.
Pleasantville moves to 22-11 after the doubleheader and will close out the regular tonight against BGM.
