There was no shortage of excitement in the first round district game in Colfax on Saturday night, as the PCM baseball team came out on top 9-7 against the Tigerhawks in eight innings.
The back and forth affair got started with the Mustangs throwing the first punch leading 5-1 after an inning and a half only to see the lead erased with a five run second for the Tigerhawks. Trailing 6-5, Brayton Van Dyke hit a two-run bomb in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead. That score held after four scoreless relief innings by Derek Brown only giving up one hit. Down to their final strike, the Tigerhawks found the equalizer on a base hit to force extras. That thrill was short lived however, as Olin Meinders had a two RBI knock in the top of the eighth with the bases loaded that proved to be the game winner. Van Dyke closed out the game on the bump going two innings of two hit ball. Preston Van Wyk continued his hot stretch going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Wes Cummings added a pair of hits for the Mustangs.
The win pushes PCM to an 11-13 record and sets up a Marion County matchup against Pleasantville tomorrow in a class 2A district semifinal.
