Despite two game tying hits in the late innings of play, the Pella baseball team fell 4-2 in the first round of district play to Bondurant-Farrar Friday night.
The Blue Jays got an early lead with a solo home run by Quinn Waterhouse, and that would be all the game would see scoring-wise until the 6th inning. The Little Dutch threatened in the third, fourth, and fifth innings and couldn’t get a clutch hit to get a run in. With their chances dwindling, a one out walk by Kamden Lambert led to a game-tying RBI single from Avery Van Zee in bottom of the sixth, only for the Blue Jays to answer back in the top of the 7th with a run of their own, with another clutch hit coming for Pella in the bottom of the inning in form of a Landon Vander Leest one out no-doubt home run to send the game into extras. The Blue Jays scored two runs in the top of the ninth to finally put the game to rest, as Pella couldn’t score any runs in the bottom of the innings.
Pella Coach Jesse Jablonski tells KNIA/KRLS Sports there were many times his team could have folded and given up, but they showed resilience and a never-give-up attitude not only this game but all season long. Pella ends the season at 18-16 and graduates three seniors
