A Minnesota man was sentenced to five years in prison Thursday.
Leslie Hout was originally arrested in early April for his third OWI after the Marion County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop, but he refused to pull over causing a short pursuit on Highway 14 that reached speeds exceeding 85 mph. Hout eventually pulled over and resisted police commands before being taken into custody. The defense requested a suspended sentence or probation, arguing that no one with drug and mental health problems benefits from prison, and it won’t help Hout be rehabilitated.
The state recommended five years in prison for the third OWI offense, five years for eluding police, and two years for a carrying weapons charge, all to be served concurrently, which was the sentence that Hout was ultimately given.
