During the 2018 Knoxville Nationals, the Knoxville Police Department will have a full staff of regular and reserve officers patrolling the city.
Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News that contrary to popular belief, no outside law enforcement is brought in to Knoxville to help with the influx of population. Chief Losada also gave some advice to those who want to enjoy the racing without getting involved with police:
“Be smart, put yourselves in the officer’s shoes and think about being in a situation where he/she would have to take enforcement action. One of the biggest things for locals to keep in mind is to not drive your golf carts on Lincoln St., as there is no tolerance for that.”
A total of 21 people were arrested during the 2017 Knoxville Nationals, with 11 of those for alcohol related offenses.
