We are up to number two on the top ten sports moments in the Knoxville School year. During the late 70s through the early 90s, volleyball at Knoxville High School was a perennial power house. Winning conference titles and contending not just for the state tournament, but state titles. However in the last 20 or so years, the volleyball program had not has the same amount of success as in the past. That was until last season. After going 1-5 in the South Central Conference in 2016, the Panthers were determined to reverse the trend, and did they ever by rolling through the South Central Conference 6-0 and only dropping four sets along the way. The Panthers match of the year was against Eddyville-Blakesburg when they had to win to clinch at least a share of the title. Knoxville held the upper hand going to the fourth set up 2-1, but the Rockets jumped out to an early lead but back came Knoxville to win it 30-28. Head Coach Mollie Keitges told KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls played like they wanted that match. It was the first conference title for Knoxville in volleyball since the mid-90s. The Panthers would finish with a 17-23 overall record.
