The Pella School Board set their legislative priorities for the upcoming school year at their meeting this week.
Superintendent Greg Ebeling tells KNIA/KRLS News the board prioritized what they want to see lobbied for by the Iowa Association of School Boards. He says the emphasis is similar to previous years, with a focus on adequate funding from the state in various areas related to education.
“The top three priorities for the board were adequate state funding, also funding around our state sales tax which helps us with our facilities and infrastructure,” he says. “We talked about special education funding as well.”
Additionally, the board wants to keep strong standards and accountability for students and staff going through the public school system.
Ebeling says a lot could change with the legislature and governor’s office after the election in November, which may impact the effectiveness of the lobbying efforts.
