Lindsay Breon (pictured far right) attends Princeton for JSA Experience

A Pella Christian senior spent a week at a prestigious college learning more about the political process.
Lindsay Breon took part in the Junior State of America Institute on New Jersey Leadership & Politics at Princeton University. Breon tells KNIA/KRLS News she was able to meet students from around the country with different political viewpoints and life experiences, and participated in workshops about writing bills and debating.
“It was neat seeing how you can be plugged into politics in so many different ways — you don’t have to be a politician to be in politics,” she says. “There were a lot of pieces we got to see there. We also honed in on how to write bills among our groups.”
Breon says she enjoyed the opportunity to meet people from other backgrounds and now better understands some of their political beliefs.
“Going there, I was really worried about not being super smart, not knowing enough about politics, but it was cool because everybody there was an expert in a different way,” she says. “Some people were more of an expert in illegal immigration, some people were more of an expert in the $15 minimum wage, free college tuition — there was different issues people were experts in–an economics event. There were lots of kids there who had honed in on economics in all their education leading up to JSA.”
