While the Lady Dutch volleyball team comes back with the vast majority of their outside and middle hitters from 2017, they will be searching for consistency at the position responsible for getting them the ball.
Head Coach Catie Brand tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they are currently in the process of establishing the setter position, and what it could mean for their offense. With all-state players Kiki Pingel and Kara Wichhart handling the position over the last three years, there are big shoes to fill, so much so that the Lady Dutch may change their offensive attack from a 5-1 to a 6-2 offense.
“What can be really exciting about a 6-2 is that you can bring in more hitters and your hitters will typically all play in the front row while your setters come out of the back row, and we have a lot of depth in our right side hitting and middles, and outside, so it will be nice to get some other opportunities.”
Shelby Hancock will be filling in as the top setter in the offense, with Brand saying an underclassman will likely take on the other role in the 6-2 format. Pella opens the season at home Tuesday against Ballard.
