It was a successful start to the 2018 campaign for the No. 5 Lady Dutch volleyball in their sweep of Ballard 25-14, 25-13, 30-28 Tuesday evening.
Head Coach Catie Brand tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a fast start and the team seemed to be in a groove in sets one and two, but the third set was different, and required numerous comebacks to finish it off.
“We didn’t quite get it clicking at the beginning of set three the way I was hoping we would, missed a lot of key serves and just looked a little rattled,” Brand says. “So we tried to regroup, tried to settle, came back and tied it up [at 24 all], and that was a pretty good response–I was really pleased with how we stayed calm in that moment…it was a little bit of a roller coaster that last set.”
Emily Holterhaus picked up where she left off in her dominant junior campaign, with the senior lifting off for 17 kills and three blocks. Jenna Schulte had seven kills and three blocks as well, and freshman Bailey Van Voorst had six service aces in her varsity debut.
Pella is 1-0 and heads to the Bondurant tournament Saturday, along with Pella Christian, before both teams meet next week.
