Pella opens the season at home tonight when they continue the non-district season against Mt. Pleasant.
The No. 4 in Class 3A Little Dutch are 1-0 after a 28-0 shutout of Dallas Center-Grimes, and looking to use that momentum to fuel their week two efforts.
Head Coach Jay McKinstrey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the Panthers are set to air it out, and if it weren’t for a few big plays, their week one loss would have been much closer.
“Mt. Pleasant has a really good thrower, a 6-3, 225 pound kid who is throwing the ball very well,” he says. “They’ve got some speedy receivers, and they certainly are looking to throw the ball.”
McKinstrey is referring to Zach Beason, who went 21/33 for 188 yards and two interceptions. Pella last played Mt. Pleasant in 2011, and owns a 3-1 all-time record against the Panthers.
Coverage from Pella High School begins on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com at 7 p.m., with kickoff at 7:30. Andrew Schneider and Randy Sikkema will call the action.
