Knoxville knew to beat Centerville Friday night, the Panthers would have to control Centerville player McCain Oden. Little did Knoxville know that the Panthers would only have to deal with Oden for a half as he went down with a broken thumb and just 51 yards rushing which helped propel the Panthers to an upset win over the class 2A #9 Big Reds 27-12 heard live on KNIA and kniakrls.com. The game was scoreless at the half with the Panthers defense getting key stops, but Knoxville set the tone on the first play of the second half when Kieren Nichols dashed 84 yards for the score. Less than two minutes later, Carter Bailey rambled 29 yards, and after a Centerville touchdown, Keegan Cox scampered 23 yards to give Knoxville three touchdowns in less than seven minutes of the third quarter to build a 20-6 lead. Another score by Bailey would ice game with just over seven minutes left in the final quarter. Coach Eric Kellar told KNIA/KRLS they leaned on the running game in the second half. Kieren Nichols led the Panthers rushing attack with 122 yards while Bailey had 115, to help the Panthers gash the Big Reds for 326 total rushing yards. Knoxville is now 2-1 on the season and will travel to Chariton for its final non-district game next Friday.
