Supporters of the arts and music in the Knoxville school system conducted a car wash Saturday morning to raise funds for those programs.
The Motor Inn hosted the Knoxville Music Boosters car wash, and about 60 students, teachers, and parents were on hand to collect free-will donations on behalf of music and artistic education.
Booster Shanna Cahill tells KNIA/KRLS News the Knoxville district continues to support the arts as best it can, even though other districts have been known to cut these programs first when money gets tight.
“Our district is extremely supportive; any time we go and talk to them, they are very supportive of our programming, of our arts. They just don’t have the money to be able to put into it the way that we need; and so, in order to have our kids be able to work with quality instruments and with quality things, they just need a little extra help. So any money we can get in from the community is much appreciated, and we have a very generous community,” Cahill says.
The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio was on the scene, playing music during the course of the morning.
