Some of the best marching bands in the region are gathering to kick off the competition season this weekend.
Director of the Pella Marching Dutch Jason Pentico tells KNIA/KRLS News the annual Marching Dutch Invitational begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Pella High School Football Stadium.
“There’s a lot of great bands coming,” he says. “The last few years, we’ve had well over 2000 students on campus here and their directors, and it’s been a really tremendous way for us to show the Pella Dutch hospitality, and the evening is just a really great celebration of a lot of young people that have worked so hard in preparation for the marching season.”
Pentico says it’s an opportunity for the community to support music and watch some of the best ensembles in Iowa perform, including Knoxville and PCM in competition, and Pella to end the evening in exhibition.
“The Marching Dutch don’t compete, but we do get to perform and get evaluated by judges,” he says.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.
