An explosive first half gave way to dominant defenses in the second half as the Simpson Storm football team survived Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves 27-21 Saturday afternoon in a game heard live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA.
Each team scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter, with the Storm missing an extra point and trailed 14-13 at the end of one. The Storm owned the second quarter, with Cam Bunting scoring a pair of rushing touchdowns to take a 27-14 lead into halftime. The offenses stalled in the second half, with neither team putting up any points until the Prairie Wolves scored with 5 minutes left. Another Simpson drive stalled, and gave Nebraska Wesleyan the ball with a chance to win with a touchdown and extra point, but a failed fourth down conversion in Storm territory gave Simpson the win. Bunting lead the way with 173 yards on the ground and three touchdowns. Simpson improves to 2-1 on the season, and will spend next Saturday enjoying their bye week.
