Melcher Dallas edged out Twin Cedars in a tough fought game Friday night. In a game full of lead changes and high octane offense, It was Melcher Dallas who stood tall when the clock hit zeros. The Saints won 60-56.
A rivalry game turned into a shootout this Friday as Twin Cedars went on the road to face Melcher Dallas. The home team had a lot to lose, with both a rivalry trophy and Homecoming pride at stake.
Twin Cedars entered Friday on a three-game winning streak in which their defense had been sterling. However, it was quickly apparent this was not going to be either defenses’ day. The first seven drives of the game resulted in five touchdowns.
At halftime, Twin Cedars held a 28-20 lead off the back of a passing touchdown from Daniel Beary and two rushing touchdowns from tailback Tytus Hunt. The two teams traded gashing runs and long touchdown passes throughout much of the second half.
The fourth quarter began with a 42-40 Melcher Dallas lead after two rushing touchdowns on back-to-back drives by Wide Receiver Ethan Harrington from the wildcat formation. However, on the kickoff following his second TD, Harrington was ejected on a controversial targeting penalty.
In the 4th, It was two brilliant touchdown catches from Blaise Cooper via quarterback Steven Krpan that helped Melcher Dallas open up a 60-48 lead with less than two minutes remaining. A long touchdown pass from Daniel Beary to Brock Denburger brought Twin Cedars within 4 points. However, the following onside kick was recovered without issue. This cemented a dramatic and well-earned 60-56 Melcher Dallas win.
Melcher Dallas Improves to 2-3 on the year and prepares for AGWSR next week. Twin Cedars falls to 3-3 and will face Baxter in week 6.
