A pair of senior women student-athletes at Central College earned their first career American Rivers Conference Performer of the Week recognition as announced by the league office Monday.
Soccer midfielder Olivia Denham and volleyball right-side hitter Melissa Miller received the honor for offense and defense in their sports, respectively. Denham scored the first goal in games against Simpson College and Concordia University – Chicago, in which Central won 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. Her goal against the Cougars was counted as a game winner. She also had an assist in a 2-1 overtime victory against Grinnell. Central went 3-0 last week. One last non-conference contest awaits Central (6-2-1, 1-0-0 conference) Wednesday at Monmouth College at 4:30 p.m.
Miller helped the Dutch achieve a 3-1 record last week by racking up 20 blocks and 31 kills. In a 3-1 victory against Buena Vista University, she recorded 10 kills, 2 blocks and four digs. At the North Park University Invitational, she had seven blocks in matches against Greenville College and St. Mary’s College. The Dutch (8-8, 1-1 conference) have a triangular against Grinnell College and Ripon College in Grinnell on Saturday.
