With eight pass break-ups against the University of Dubuque Saturday, Central College football cornerback Trevor Smith was chosen for the D3football.com’s team of the week Tuesday.
In the 20-year history of the award, Central is up to 44 recipients, the most of any school in the American Rivers Conference. Of Smith’s eight pass break-ups, three came on third down and one came on a fourth-down stop. He is now tied for second on most passes defended in an NCAA Division III game. Former Dutch cornerback Eric Larson ’15 previously held the school record with seven break-ups against Dubuque in 2014. Smith also had five tackles, including two solo stops, to help the Dutch defense in a 35-13 victory.
