A showdown between conference rivals will likely have playoff implications as two teams gunning for a trip to state this year meet at Pella High School Tuesday.

The No. 6 in 4A Lady Dutch welcome the No. 4 in 4A Dallas Center-Grimes Fillies to town, in what will effectively determine the No. 2 team in the Little Hawkeye Conference and who finishes higher in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Rankings.

Pella Head Coach Catie Brand is hoping for a big crowd on a night that carries a lot of importance.

“Definitely want the gym to be packed — it’s our senior night and we have seven seniors and a foreign exchange student senior that we will be honoring,” she says. “We definitely want school spirit, community spirit–anybody who can come fill that gym and make it loud, fun atmosphere–we want.”

However, Brand is cautious in applying too much pressure to the match, as she is mainly looking to see if the Lady Dutch remain competitive with a team likely to make noise this postseason–a Fillies squad that has only lost twice, to No. 3 in 2A Western Christian and No. 11 in 5A and likely conference champion Indianola. First serve Tuesday at Pella is 7:15 p.m.
