The Knoxville Police Department will have a wider pool of candidates to draw on, as they look for new officers to join the force.

During Monday night’s city council meeting, Police Chief Dan Losada told council members their latest announcement for an open position drew 50 applicants; he says their first attempt drew just seven applications — and none of those candidates qualified.

Losada says he used a wider variety of websites to advertise the opening, which helped to broaden their choices; about ten have already been weeded out, but Losada says it’s normal to lose candidates along the way.

The council also approved a new lease agreement with Paws and Pals for the dog park at the converted Auld Park baseball field. The organization says it will be making improvements to the field in the coming months, to make it look less like a ball diamond.
