Right now, the Knoxville School District is in good financial shape…but board members have been cautioned about the future, and what could happen if revenues decline.
The yearly financial report to the school board shows the district is meeting its financial obligations; but District Business Manager Craig Mobley tells KNIA/KRLS News the lack of additional state money and lower revenues could mean trouble in the near future.
“My feelings, and the way I’ve communicated to the board my concern, is in that our revenue growth is not keeping pace with our expenditure growth,” Mobley says. “The main reason or main cause of that is the low supplemental state aid that we’ve received over the past few years from the state.”
But Mobley says there is hope, since the state wound up with an extra $95 million to work with this year; if at least some of those monies are put towards supplemental aid, it would be helpful to Knoxville’s budget.
