Following regular business at their meeting this week, the Pella City Council discussed compensation plans for the mayor and council.

City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News those elected officials receive basic financial compensation for the hours they spend attending meetings, public events, and studying council packet material. Nardini says the council explored health plan options and expanding the amount paid to council, as unlike many cities, most items relating to utilities and city matters come to the council, whereas other communities usually have dedicated boards handle certain issues.

In order for the changes to take place, they have to be formally approved in an ordinance by the council elections in 2019, and wouldn’t take place until the new term begins in 2020.
